This breed originated among the hills of Normandy, in the Perche region. Deeply rooted in French history, its origins date back to the Middle Ages, when farmers and lumberjacks needed strong, reliable horses for farm work and logging. This gave rise to a cold-blooded breed that impresses not only with its strength and endurance but also with its calm, people-oriented nature.
The Percheron combines strength with elegance. Its build is powerful and harmonious, and its gait is long-striding and lively. It is characterized by its distinctive coat colors, ranging from silvery-light gray to deep black, and the clean lines of its build, which make it one of the most beautiful draft horses in the world.
Its temperament sets it apart: friendly, eager to work, intelligent, and always ready to assist humans. That is why it has proven itself not only in the fields and forests of France but has also found its way to many countries around the world, where it is still valued today as a versatile work and driving horse.
Through our Percheron breeding program here in Uhliská, we carry on a piece of French tradition—and blend it with our Slovak homeland, its meadows, forests, and pastures.
