FORESTS, MEADOWS AND PASTURES UHLISKÁ S.R.O.

SINCE 2014 SLOVAKIA'S LARGEST PRIVATE BREEDER OF DRAFT HORSES!

Welcome

Welcome to the website of Lesy lúky a pasienky, Uhliská s.r.o.

(Forests, meadows and pastures, Uhliská) – a place where, since 2014, a passion for nature and a love of strong, majestic animals – our draft horses – come together. We are proud to introduce our herd of horses. It is the heart of our farm and at the same time a living part of our commitment to preserving the rural natural heritage. Here we would like to share what shapes our everyday life on the farm: working with the animals, the joy of newborn foals, successes at competitions and impressions of the rhythm of the seasons.

Our story began with genuine enthusiasm for horse breeding. Since then, every day we invest in the well-being of our animals – with patience, respect and responsibility. For us this is not a task, but a relationship based on trust. Every horse has its own character. Together they create the special atmosphere of our farm – shaped by gratitude, closeness to nature and the wish to preserve something authentic. In our breeding we value ethical husbandry and healthy conditions. Our horses are not working animals in the conventional sense – they are our partners. They help us live and work in harmony with nature.

SWEDISH ARDENNES

FLEMISH HORSE

Our company is dedicated to breeding several draft-horse breeds. Our main breed is the Swedish Ardennes. We began our breeding programme by importing the first mares and stallions directly from Sweden, and our herd has grown steadily ever since.

This is a draft-horse breed that originally comes from Sweden. These horses are known for their robustness, powerful build and intelligence. They are the result of many years of selection and breeding, making them suitable for work in difficult terrain and for agricultural tasks. They have deep roots in Swedish history, with origins reaching back to the 19th century. They developed through crossings of native horses with Ardennes-type horses and other heavy breeds.

They are known for their calm and reliable nature. They are intelligent, friendly and willing to learn. These qualities make them suitable partners not only for work but also for a variety of leisure activities and disciplines.

PERCHERON

Last but not least, we are also dedicated to breeding the French Percheron draft horse. The Percheron is a heavy draft-horse breed originating from the Perche region of Normandy, France. These horses are known for their strength, endurance and calm temperament.

They are deeply rooted in French history and their origins reach back to the Middle Ages. They were bred in the Perche region for agricultural work and logging. Their robustness and ability to withstand demanding conditions made Percherons popular horses in France and around the world.

They are known for a calm yet active temperament. They are considered highly intelligent and willing to cooperate with people. This combination makes them suitable not only for farm work but also for many other activities and disciplines. An important feature is their distinctive colour, ranging from light grey to deep black, as well as their characteristic anatomical traits.

Percherons are regarded as one of the most beautiful draft-horse breeds, and their importance to the history and culture of France is evident both within the world of draft horses and in a wider context.

Another breed we keep is the Belgian Flemish horse, originating in Flanders. The Flemish horse, also known as the Vlaams Paard, is one of the largest and heaviest horse breeds in the world. These imposing and powerful horses are known for their willingness to work, endurance and friendly character.

The Flemish horse has a rich history reaching back to the Middle Ages. Originally it was bred for agricultural work and heavy transport. With the development of agriculture and industry in Belgium, the Flemish horse became an important draft-horse breed.

The events at the end of the 19th century are also interesting. For a long time this breed was not recognised in Belgium and most of these horses were exported abroad. Some reached Czechoslovakia and contributed to today's Českomoravský Belgik. In America the breed became very popular among the Amish community. These breeders improved it by crossing with Clydesdales, contributing to today's Flemish horses, whose height at the withers can exceed 180 cm.

In 1993, thanks to Roger Talpe, the first Flemish horse returned to Europe. His name was Northfork Duke. The first Flemish horse came to Slovakia in 2017 thanks to Mrs Lenka Mahútová. At that time he was a six-month-old stallion; today the fully grown Willov du Bosquet is the pride of our stable.

The Flemish horse is particularly known for its size and weight, which make it ideal for heavy work. It is known for a calm and friendly temperament and is considered very reliable and loyal. Despite its size, it is often described as easy to handle and willing to cooperate with people.

Like other draft horses, the Flemish horse faces challenges associated with modern agriculture and transport. However, there are organisations and breeders like us who are committed to protecting and preserving the breed so that its characteristic qualities remain.

Alongside our passion for horses, we are also committed to breeding high-quality cattle, with a focus on Aberdeen Angus and Scottish Highland cattle.

SCOTTISH HIGHLAND CATTLE

Scottish Highland cattle, with their characteristic robust build and long coat, are at the heart of our pastures. We value this breed for its resilience in difficult conditions and its ability to thrive on pasture in hard-to-reach areas.

We are committed to the principles of sustainable agriculture, which means that we strive to minimise the environmental impact of our activities. We carefully select and manage our pastures, pay close attention to the welfare and health of our animals and promote biodiversity in our surroundings.

Our commitment to breeding Aberdeen Angus and Scottish Highland cattle is not only a business matter, but also a way of providing a regional product of the highest quality. We believe in the importance of preserving and spreading traditional breeds and the cultural value of these animals.

We are proud to continue on this path and to offer you not only the beauty and strength of our horses, but also tasty, high-quality beef from our cattle. Our forests, meadows and fields are a place where traditional agricultural values meet modern approaches to sustainability and quality.

ABERDEEN ANGUS

Our Aberdeen Angus breeding reflects our aim to offer meat of the highest quality while preserving the traditions of this breed. Aberdeen Angus is known for its harmonious, muscular build, the excellent taste and fine marbling of its meat, and its remarkable ability to adapt to different husbandry conditions.

Originally from Scotland, this naturally polled cattle breed is one of the world's most popular beef breeds. Its meat is characterised by tenderness, juiciness and a particularly intense flavour – qualities that make it a sought-after delicacy.

With our careful approach, we place particular emphasis on species-appropriate husbandry, balanced feed and calm growth. The welfare of the cattle is central, because only healthy and stress-free animals can develop their full potential. Through gentle methods and extensive experience, we ensure that every animal grows under optimal conditions and produces meat of exceptional quality.

In this way we combine modern breeding standards with respect for the long tradition of Aberdeen Angus cattle – for a sustainable, high-quality and authentic culinary experience.
